When I first heard of Bitch Planet last summer, I was infinitely excited. As someone fairly new to comic books as a medium, it was fantastic to know there was something so outwardly critical of patriarchy and so openly and unashamedly feminist. I didn't actually read it until October, when I picked up the trade paperback at the MCM Expo in London, and when I finally started it I could see instantly that it lived up to the hype I'd seen on the internet. It was witty, smart, the art was beautiful and it had some very serious commentary on how society treats women - especially queer women, women of colour and fat women. A whole issue was dedicated to Penny Rolle and her life and perception of herself, and it was amazing.

If I had a pound for every time I'd tried to start and keep up with a blog, I wouldn't have needed to take out a student loan. I honestly could have funded my entire university education, including the semester in the US, and I would still have change. Never mind.
